How Far Should A Coffee Table To The Couch

COMPARTMENT FOR WOMEN Anita Nair

is the first book by Anita Nair I read ...
And it makes the stories of six women who meet in a train compartment, the time of a trip.
We are in India, and women are classified by the company trains over cars or compartments with disabilities and the elderly! Akhila

ago, 45 years old, single, going south, where three seas mingle: the Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea.
She decided to make the trip to guide his future life. At 45, she was entirely devoted to his family when his father died. She has to support his mother and her 3 siblings. Now she no longer knows whether it should continue, while all are autonomous, and that his mother died, or if there is another life for women alone ...

In this compartment, tight in their berths close, she meets five other women, very different from each other, each going to tell him their life.
Margaret, and her failed marriage to a man odious and perverse.
Janaki, married for 40 years, her husband takes care of all attention.
Sheela, 16, who just lost his beloved grandmother and left her home.
Prabha Devi, who after traveling in the West, had to readjust to the Indian customs regarding female behavior.
Marikolanthu, finally, who had a child born of rape, and was ostracized by her family because of this.

All these women will give their lives to Akhila, in stories often painful, but repairers, and eventually it will emerge strengthened in his decision to live free.

The only complaint I could make this novel is to be a bit disjointed, since the stories of these women succeed without really cross.
But I really want to read other books by Anita Nair, particularly the last, "When the hurricanes come."
